CLO 3D: Learnings and Outcomes

The sensitivity towards sustainability has been heightened in the past months as a result of multiple factors, including the current floods in Europe, weather changes globally, as well as the actions of environmental activism. This has led everyone to think about how they can contribute to solving the climate crisis and has also made it possible for professionals and specialists in the subject to voice their opinions during the G7 Summit in Cornwall this year.

This topic is very close to our hearts as it should be to everybody’s since we are all heavily affected by the current and future implications of the changes that are happening to our planet. The obvious question here is what each of us can do to facilitate the rapid changes that are desperately needed in order to reverse the cycle.

A small step we at YE KOMOD are making is to use 3D as much as possible instead of physical toiling, which, apart from plenty of time, uses up masses of contaminating resources: chemicals, plastics, microplastics, as well as paper, natural fibres and many many others.

At first, we were slightly sceptical about incorporating CLO 3D in the design process: it is coupled with additional resources and has a steep learning curve, it uses up time and is difficult to insert in already well-established processes. However, it turned out to be a relatively easy transition, as once started, the process calls for overall production cycle changes. Not to mention it is super fun and engaging.

We understand that incorporating 3D in the main design process might not be as easy for a big corporation as it is for a small fish, nonetheless, it is something definitely to be considered. After all, times change and our planet changes, and so do we, and fashion is always considered a cultural fragment, which reflects those shifts.

Furthermore, looking at the apparel sector as the second biggest polluter and a major cause of current environmental fluctuations, we think taking this step is the least each one participant in this industry can do on their part.

Here are some images of our learning curve using CLO 3D in the past months.
