Designing for the Raw
I have been designing Mammut’s ski patroller vests, hardshell jackets, insulation jackets, pants, and accessories for ski patrollers for more than four years and now, for the first time ever since, I am sharing some images of the people I design for. In preparing this post, I dove into their lifestyle, quirks, and everyday, and was pleased to discover how my designs influence their practice, as well as their free time.
What made a lasting impression on me, more than anything else, is how the mountains unite patrollers. In their raw environment, the vanity of comfort disappears and only the organic is left: compassion, quick wits, communication, sharing, and saving lives. This unrefined human state is what drives me to engineer better products, devoid of gimmicks, implementing only that, which is going to stand the test of the mountains.
P.S. Following photos are sourced from the websites and social media of the following ski resorts: USA: Snowbird, Eldora, Jackson Hole, Copper Mountain, Pico, Killington, Boreal, Woodward Tahoe, SilverStar, Lee Canyon, Mt. Bachelor; Switzerland: Zermatters, and ESS Crans Montana.
